Since their 2007 reunion one-off, the Led Zeppelin rumors have been pretty much ever-burning, the most recent flair-up cause by the fact that the band reportedly turned down an offer in the millions to headline Download Festival this summer. The fact that the band turned down the money led Download Festival runner Andy Copping to insist to everyone who will listen that Led Zeppelin will likely never reunite:
Every single festival in the world approaches Led Zeppelin or their management to get them to pay at their festival,” Copping told XFM. “Loads of money gets thrown out. It’s not what they want to do at the moment and that’s fine. They probably never will, but everyone has a stab at it.”
I guess this more a commentary on how rich Led Zeppelin are right now than how rich they could be if they reunited. I guess when you own castles, joining up with guys you spent the '60s and '70s arguing/sharing groupies for millions of dollars isn't that enticing. I'm just curious what the magic number would be for them to reunite. It's like when Pink Floyd turned down an advance of something like a half a billion dollars to reunite a few years ago. It seems crazy, but when you're already rich, what's the point? It's not like they can find some untapped market like Pavement might be able to with their reunion tour. [RS]
the love and the passion is the point, not the money
