The Law & Order franchise can't keep itself away from a popular news story. The series have been ripping stories from the headlines for years. Now the franchise is taking on one of this year's biggest pop culture phenomena, E.L. James's best-selling S&M novel Fifty Shades of Grey.
According to Vulture, Law & Order: SVU will air an episode this season focused on a book very similar to the erotic bestseller. Anna Chlumsky, of My Girl and now Veep fame, will play the author of a book called 25 Acts which bears a striking resemblence to Fifty Shades.
SVU showrunner Warren Leight told Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming episode, describing the fake book as "a woman's journey through the world of domination and submission." No one can deny the Fifty Shades connection there.
The episode will be the second of the new season, and it will air on Oct. 10.
Leight doesn't try to hide the fact that the show is inspired by headlines: "There is not end to the number of topics in the news that make for interesting episodes for us and interesting issues to explore."
The long-running police drama airs its 14th season premiere tonight at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
