Track Review: Lavender Diamond "Open Your Heart"

If the first single off Lavender Diamond's forthcoming Matador full-length Imagine Our Love is any indication of what we can expect from the rest of the album then the venerable NYC label seems to have another winner on its hands. The song is admittedly simplistic, with some guitar strumming, basic piano plinking and intermittent handclaps forming its core. The strings that flit around the song's edges eventually swell into somthing a little more profound, but the band is hardly reinventing the wheel. Simplicity aside there's an undeniably winsome quality to the track that's significantly amplified by Becky Stark's vocals. This is feel-good music plain and simple, and it's devilishly successful at snagging your heartstrings.

Really pretty track.

Interesting sound on this. Much more contemporary than the '60s throwback of the EP.

I saw them open for the Decemberists last year. Liked this song live, like it now.
