Reports coming out of the Bay Area about Lauryn Hill's show last Wednesday night at the Paramount Theater aren't too promising. Performance lowlights included: an eighty-minute time lapse between the end of opener Jupiter Rising's set and Hill's performance, which had members of the sold-out audience heading for the doors before Hill even hit the stage; Hill's large backing band drowning out her voice; Hill continually wiping sweat from her beleaguered face as she performed; Hill tripping around the stage in high heels; Hill singing off-pitch, in a raspy tone, and forgetting large amounts of lyrics; and Hill challenging fans to leave if they didn't like how the night was going. Quite a start to a comeback, no?
