When Laura Marling debuted in 2008 with Alas, I Cannot Swim, the resounding notion was that she was not only a strong songwriter but also wise beyond her years. I mean, she wrote the album when she was only 17 years old. And now, at age 21, she is readying her third album, A Creature I Don’t Know, for a September release.
It’s the follow-up to last year’s critically lauded I Speak Because I Can and features 10 new tracks from Marling. She again worked with producer Ethan Johns, who was at the helm of I Speak Because I Can. According to a release, “Fans of Marling’s previous recordings will recognize her mesmeric tales and soaring melodies in what is ultimately an incredibly intimate album.” Sounds about right.
A Creature I Don’t Know drops Sept. 13.
