Lady Gaga Playboy Shoot Rumor Mill in Overdrive

Lady Gaga is milking the teat of The Fame Monster with the recently released "Alejandro," but even enormous global notoriety and utter saturation of the press isn’t stopping her from unwittingly generating yet more publicity. A rumor that Gaga may pose for Playboy has surfaced, apparently causing upset for her management company, who probably aren’t upset at all, but have had someone claim they are “upset," thus generating more publicity for their star performer.

If you’re following all that so far, settle in, because here comes an unnamed source with the crux of the story. “She thinks it will be an experience, and she's always looking to grow as an artist,” said the source. “She doesn't think there's anything distasteful about it. She sees it as just another form of expression. She's always looking to shock and entertain, and something like this would be perfect for her. She wants her shoot to be like nothing Playboy has ever seen before.”

The great part about this story is another unnamed source has stepped in to rebuff the idea, claiming to have knowledge of the thoughts and feelings of Gaga’s management team and friends. “Most of her inner circle are fuming about her plans to strip off,” said source #2. “Her business people are trying to convince her the shoot will be seen as lowbrow and cheesy, and will alienate her fans who like her edgy appeal. No one wants her to do it. It goes against all her ideas about creativity.”

It’s hard to escape the idea that this is all a product of the over-active imaginations of celebrity gossip writers with tight deadlines and headline hungry editors to appease. Nevertheless, Hugh Hefner has picked up on the tale, and has posted via Twitter: “We'd love to have Lady GaGa in Playboy. That would be a very special issue.” So that’s a job well done for the unnamed sources of the world, although the chances of this happening, or anyone connected to Gaga being angry about it, appear to be nil.

Great post, Nick. Maybe the unnamed sources work for Hefner.

If this story is, as you claim, a bunch of unnamed sources blathering about a non-event... why did you guys get suckered into reporting on it?

To highlight the absurdity of it all.
