The VMAs always create plenty of interest, although the actual award winners rarely generate many column inches. Instead, the presenters, celebrity guests and strange one-off performances hog the headlines—who can forget Michael Jackson kissing Lisa Marie Presley, or Nirvana almost playing “Rape Me” back in the early ‘90s?
This year will likely be no exception, and with comedian Russell Brand once again returning to host, the 2009 VMAs look set to keep the tabloids happy. MTV has also announced the performers at the ceremony, with Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, Green Day, Pink and Muse all set to play live.
Gaga has been nominated for several awards and is likely to cause a stir. The initial list of presenters doesn’t look thrilling (Nelly Furtado, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo) although the organizers probably have a few tricks up their sleeve. The VMAs are due to air on September 13 at 9:00 EST.
