Lady Gaga Discusses "Angry" and "Political" New Album

We may be entering an era when the album-single-album cycle is put into motion without the usual gap between releases. Lady GaGa is still plundering The Fame Monster for material, but she has also managed to find time to head back into the recording studio to make an entire new album.

"I think I’m gonna get the album title tattooed on me and put out the photo,” said Gaga in a Rolling Stone interview. She didn’t actually name the record—that is apparently going to be revealed at midnight on New Year’s Eve at Gaga’s Madison Square Garden show—although she did offer a few oblique words on the album’s contents.

"Why are we still talking about 'Don't ask, don't tell?'” she asked. “It's like, what fucking year is it? It makes me crazy! And I have been for three years baking cakes – and now I'm going to bake a cake that has a bitter jelly. The message of the new music is now more bitter than it was before. Because the sweeter the cake, the more bitter the jelly can be."

Rolling Stone has deciphered these words to mean that the new Gaga material will be “angry” and may even have a “political bent.” How they arrived at this conclusion based on a few words about jelly and baking cakes isn’t clear, but Gaga has at least explained how she managed to prep the album in such a short period of time: "I've been working on it for months now, and I feel very strongly that it’s finished right now. It came so quickly. Some artists take years; I don't. I write music every day."
