Lady Gaga Can't Win Best New Artist Grammy Next Year
The Best New Artist award at The Grammy's is notorious for signifying the curse -- the one in which the winner goes from success to failure quickly, thrown to the dustbin of history. Taking a look at the past receipts, it's almost comical how true the curse is.
Lady Gaga, who clearly locked down the category months ago, shouldn't be worried. According to the new artist rules, she cannot be nominated since her record "Let's Dance" was nominated for Best Dance Recording earlier this year. Even with the implications of the award, most young artists would still be upset with this decision. Even for a moment, the spotlight the prize shines on you can help your career. But the fact of the matter is, Gaga has pretty much locked down nominations in every major category they can squeeze her into. It's a safe bet she'll be going home that night with more awards than she can carry. [MTV]

huh? aside from adele last year, the winners of the award the past 5 years were amy winehouse, carrie underwood, john legend, maroon 5, and evanesence. regardless of whether or not you're a fan, those are still big artists that can sell a lot of albums and a lot of tickets.

One thing I always found hilarious about the Best New Artist Grammy is that it should be named Best New Artist (currently enjoying mainstream success on a major label). Don't forget No Doubt was nominated for this award in 1997, nearly a decade after they first got together.
