The nominations for the annual MTV Video Music Awards have been announced, and Lady GaGa and Beyonce look set to be the most likely victors. Both stars have gained nine nominations each, and the winners will ultimately be revealed at a ceremony at Radio City Music Hall on September 13.
Among the other artists scoring big during the nominations are Kanye West, Eminem, Britney Spears and Coldplay. Unfortunately, most of the nominees are uninspired and predictable—Best Rock Video will be contested between Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Kings of Leon, Paramore and Chris Martin’s band, which sounds like a big snooze-fest.
Nominations for Bat for Lashes and Matt and Kim might make the Breakthrough Video Award worth staying awake for, and Lady GaGa will surely have something outrageous up her sleeve. Let’s just hope that Jay-Z or Kanye can fend off the depressing rise of Asher Roth in the Best Hip-Hop Video award.
That list of nominations is so pathetic. It's basically the same videos over and over again. It's clear that pickings were slim this year seeing as MTV didn't bother with watching that many music videos themselves. And someone please tell them that there were music videos before February.
Check out my new album called Las lobas (http://djbreadnbutter.com/archives/456) featuring many of the nominees including Britney, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Cobra Starship, Rihanna and more! If you’d like to publish it on your site or if you have any comments on the mix, let me know.
