Lady Gaga has never been shy about using her celebrity status as a way of promoting activism, and on Tuesday she was honored with the LennonOno Grant for Peace for her ongoing altruistic work. The award, presented to the pop singer in Reykjavik, Iceland, specifically recognizes two of her charitable causes, the Born This Way Foundation and her Body Revolution 2013 campaign, which "empowers her fans to embrace who they are, flaws and all."
Asked what she will do with the $50,000 monetary award, Gaga announced her plans to donate the sum of the grant to the Elton John AIDS Foundation; furthermore, she promised to "[work] closely with them to ensure that the money goes specifically to those orphans and disadvantaged youth in America born with HIV or AIDS."
