L.A. Today: The Fold 10th Anniversary

The Fold 10th Anniversary Party @ Silverlake Lounge, 4/17

Hard to believe that it's already been ten years since The Fold started booking shows in Los Angeles - harder still to imagine an eastside scene without it. These days, the Fold's enigmatic booking maven Scott Sterling regularly graces no fewer than six venues (Tangier, Bordello, The Derby, Silverlake Lounge, El Cid and occasionally The Scene and Safari Sam's) with his unfailingly great taste in indie rock bands and singer-songwriters. But it all started exactly ten years ago on April 17th, 1997, with a single show at the Silverlake Lounge, so it's the right place and time to celebrate The Fold's birthday. Providing a soundtrack for the inevitable drunkenness of Sterling and Co.: robotic rock nightmares from futuristic, minimalist dyad Pity Party; baroque indie folk-pop from Castledoor; and a set from an undisclosed act who has apparently played more shows at the Silverlake Lounge than any other. Happy birthday, The Fold. Here's to many more years of cheapo indie gigs at the best venues in town. (ER)
