Ratatat @ Henry Fonda, 4/2Universal truth: White men can't jump. Established reality: They can concoct some wicked sounds. The geniuses behind Brooklyn's Ratatat are guitarist Mike Stroud and producer/laptop aficionado/synth god Evan Mast. Together, they create hydraulic-worthy beats that are the perfect blend of Kanye and Daft Punk. Their magical potion of hip-hop infused electronica have not only created a cult-like following, but have won them supporting slots for bands like The Faint, Clinic, and Mogwai. Currently promoting their latest album, Classics, the mixmasters will blow your mind with tracks like "Lex" and "Wildcat." Also noteworthy are their remixing capabilities. Anyone who can dancify Biggie and sprinkle indie techno dust on Ludacris deserves mad props in my book. Supporting the pair of party music makers are NYC rapper Despot and Norwegian electronic foursome 120 Days. (NB)

Twas a visually stunning show last night! Their tour manager Steve was incredibly generous in offering me all access so I could capture some killer band-interacting-with-crowd shots... not to mention free booze, candy and towels. Although the constant smoke machine action metered "overkill" (to me) by the 5th song, it didn't seem to phase the intoxicated (and mostly underaged) audience hanging over the barricades. Apparently the crowd last night was the "largest" the Ratatat lot has claimed to have performed for. Good good times.
