Kylie Minogue "Wow" (CSS Remix)(Track Review)

Given their predilection for sprinkling sly music nerd allusions on top of their pop tunes, you have to think that CSS took knowing pleasure in bringing Kylie Minogue's career full circle on the remix of her new single, "Wow." The original is choked by choppy piano rolls and over-processed beats, but the Brazilians' subtle reworking lets her fulfill  her original marketing destiny. She sounds like a ringer for early Madonna, minus the lust.

Structurally, the song remains the same, with its verse-chorus-verse glued firmly in place. But it's hard to overestimate the power of a good wardrobe change for a showman like Minogue. Vocal acrobatics have never been her strong suit, but she could always ably follow a mid-range melody. CSS clears the chunky beats from her path, and she glides over the bubbling synths effortlessly. Sadly, despite the obvious pleasures of the Ciccone groove, it's clear that tidied corners aren't tranformative enough. This remix of "Wow" is still in desperate need of some.
