Old head to 'Stop The Violence'

Legendary rapper KRS-One (nee Kris Parker) is officially reintroducing the Stop The Violence movement, an anti-violence effort led by superstars of the Hip-Hop community. The movement was established in 1989 by KRS-One in response to growing violence in the hip hop community following the 1987 shooting death of his original partner, DJ Scott La Rock.
KRS-One told Allhiphop.com, "the Stop The Violence Movement will be 20 years old in 2009 and what have we learned? The idea is to get started now in 2007, if I want everyone to at least have heard of what Hip-Hop is doing on its own to curb violence and to answer some of the critique that we have been getting. It would be at least a year campaign, all of 2008 and lead up to the 2009 anniversary."
The Bronx-raised Hip-Hop artist is bringing Stop The Violence up to date by collecting and producing Public Service Announcements (PSA's) from various rappers, who will all appeal to the community to stop violent activities over the next year. So far, KRS-One has recruited Lil' Wayne, Ludacris, Pastor Troy, Chingy, Rick Ross, Cassidy, Ludacris, Jalil of Whodini, Hakim of Channel Live and Busta Rhymes who have supplied drops and testimonials.
"[Hip-Hop] can make a difference. We influence every inner-city in the world...it's like all of us paying attention to a wind that seems to be blowing, a certain attitude about life that we are all kind of feeling. I think everybody wants to see Hip-Hop just balance itself out and grow a little more. It's good for everybody."

The Stop The Violence Movement produced the classic "Self Destruction," featuring KRS-One, Stetsasonic, D-Nice, Doug E. Fresh, Ms. Melody, Just Ice, Heavy D, Kool Moe Dee, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Just-Ice, Heavy D, and Public Enemy. KRS-One is planning a "soundtrack" to a docudrama in development that breaks down the concept and history of violence.
