So I take a little trip over to the Sub Pop site and find, to my amazement, that long-time faves of mine Kinski are currently opening for Tool. Like, in huge stadiums. This is almost as mindblowing to me as the Modest Mouse explosion of recent years. (Side note: caught Modest Mouse Sunday night at the nasty, corporate behemoth that is the Gibson Amphitheatre here in Los Angeles. The show was moved there from the Greek Theatre because of recent fires in Griffith Park. The surreality factor was quite high. There were teeny boppers all around going absolutely ape shit for the new stuff; but when the band played "Trailer Trash" and "Doin' the Cockroach," their only two pre-signed-to-Epic selections, the youngsters just stared at them dumbfounded.)Anyhoo, back to Kinski. They're fucking opening for Tool! Insane. Especially since a Kinski show I saw at an art gallery in New Orleans when I was in college was easily the tiniest show I've ever been to. Seriously, attendance was single-digit.
Besides opening for Tool for the rest of this month, Kinski have a new album ready to roll. It's entitled Down Below It's Chaos, and is slated for release August 21. The album was produced by Randall Dunn, who has also worked with Boris, Earth, and Sun O))). So expect heaviness.
After the jump you can find the rest of Kinski's dates this month opening for Tool!
