Kings of Leon square off against Katy Perry in Britain

As we all know, Kings of Leon are way bigger in Britain than they are here stateside. Accordingly, the band is fighting someone who is actually big here, Katy Perry, for the number one spot on the British singles charts. The Followill clan are even talking down Perry in the press in hopes of getting their new single, “Sex on Fire,” to overtake Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl.”

Talking to the BBC, lead King Caleb Followill had this to say:

"I kissed a girl and I liked it too. If we beat Katy Perry and score our first Number One I'll be very happy. I want to beat everybody,” he said.

Whether or not the Kings of Leon will be able to overtake Perry is debatable, but mocking her awful song while trying to prop up your ode to STD’s probably won’t elevate your status on the charts Caleb. [Gigwise]

It's an Ode to great sex not STDs & is a belter of a song. KOL have been marketed as an album band in Europe (20 - 35 yr old festival-goers bracket) whereas Katy Perry would be a catchy single (15 - 25 yrs club goers). KOL will have even better results in two weeks when their album comes out IMO. I doubt the singles chart is their moneymaker even if they are doing well with it at the moment, they will be looking to sell albums. That is what most of their fans here are waiting for, not a single. :)
