"It's difficult when you make a new record and you want to play all the new songs live, but with technology these days, there'll be someone out there with a recorder and it kind of spoils it for us. You don't want to play too many new songs because otherwise they'll be on YouTube or something, so we have to pick and choose. If it was up to us we'd play all the new songs because they're so fun to play."
This seems strange, particularly if the material is good, in that more fans will see the video and want to buy the album when it comes out. I recall waiting a full year for the Drive By Truckers to release “The Day John Henry Died” after hearing it live. It could have come out on the soundtrack to Scary Movie VI and I would have bought the album to have the studio version. On the other hand, if fans like the early stuff, apparently all they have to do is keep their cell phones visible throughout the concert. [Stereogum]

Live recordings usually are not a good substitute for studio recordings. I think it actually helps band's sales.
