The Killers have joined Yoko Ono in disavowing any knowledge of the true nature of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, a film that examines (from a decidedly rightist point of view) the fight to include intelligent design in the nation’s public schools. The Killers’ message board said that the band released their song to a project described by producers as “a satirical documentary with an estimated running time of 1 hour and 50 minutes, exploring academic freedom in public schools and government institutions with actor, comedian, economist, Ben Stein as the spokesperson.” When the band found out that the freedom in question was the one to teach that we are all God’s creatures, they tried to pull support. The producers said that there was no way to remove the song so late in production, and The Killers are left to characterize themselves as victims. While there obviously was some double speak occurring, let it not be forgotten that Ben Stein used to write speeches for Nixon. With talent such as this associated, The Killers should have seen this one coming a mile away. [The Playlist]
