The Beach Boys' favorite mass murderer, Charles Manson, has released an album of his music through the Creative Commons, which makes it available for free download to the world at large.
This isn't the first time Manson has recorded. In fact, he has several albums to his credit, no to mention a couple of highly placed covers. The Beach Boys once recorded his tune "Cease to Exist" as "Never Learn Not to Love" on their 20/20 album, and he placed a song on Guns N' Roses covers album The Spaghetti Incident. Manson was, in fact, a singer/songwriter when he first arrived in L.A., and hung around with the likes of Beach Boy Dennis Wilson before he achieved his ultimate infamy.
And what of Manson's new release, One Mind? Well, it's a strange, disturbing little document full of bad mojo, but no more so than, say, your average Jandek album. If not for the blood on his hands, Manson might even have found a place for his music in the lo-fi freak-folk world, as his stream-of-consciousness psychobabble, interspersed with more stream-of-consciousness spoken-word rambling, could be convincingly passed off as dyed-in-the-wool stoner/bummer/loner/downer (or any of the other buzzwords that make old psych-folk records go for big bucks on eBay) twisted-troubadour stuff. Listen at your own risk.
