Kids can learn the indie rock alphabet with new book

In the small world of alphabet books, “A” may no longer stand for “apple.” This shocking news comes courtesy of Paste Magazine, who have published an indie rock themed addition to the genre. Paste contributors Caren Kelleher, Kate Kiefer and Rachael Maddux wrote the book, no doubt partly inspired by the baby clothes that have surfaced on merch tables belonging to bands who appeal to fans of a certain age (hello, the Pixies).

Most music fans now have to be careful when ordering a size small T-shirt, but proud parents who haven’t forgone Beck for Bruce Hornsby can now educate their kids on indie rock from a startlingly young age. Among the highlights are the letters “C” (“This lady from Atlanta is as pretty as a flower. Her mom named her Chan but she goes by Cat Power”) and “V” (“Vampire Weekend is hot, or so we’re told. But will they be around when you’re another year old?”).

The book is titled An Indie Rock Alphabet Book and is available for $12.95 from the Paste webstore. You can flick through each letter by clicking here. And in case you’re wondering, that’s Animal Collective in the picture that accompanies this article, who are, according to the book, “one weird band. But weird tastes good with Strawberry Jam.” [via WeirdCrave]
