Kid Cudi has just announced the title of his new album, indicud. After releasing a rock album called WZRD with Da Dot Genius back in February, the new LP sees Cudi return to his solo work. Speaking on Twitter, he said the following:
My new album is entitled "indicud", it will be my version of The Chronic 2001, some songs ill produce, others ill feat &/or play songwriter
— Scott Mescudi (@wizardcud) June 5, 2012
Cudi’s reference to Dr. Dre’s seminal second album is interesting because, initially, the two seem to have little in common. But rather than comparing indicud to 2001 in terms of sound or status, perhaps Cudi’s words should be understood as likening his production style to that of the G-funk pioneer. Dre was famously the centre around which 2001 took shape through its many guest contributions, and it may be in this respect that Cudi is keen to draw parallels.
indicud is expected later this year. Below is a snippet of Cudi taken from Kanye West’s new Cruel Summer film. Listen to the clip and then let us know how you interpret Cudi’s tweet. [2DBZ]
