While recently promoting his memoir Life at the New York Public Library, Keith Richards may have inadvertently killed an orchid with his secondhand smoke. Marie d'Origny, deputy director of the library's Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, claims that Richards lit up a cigarette in her office during his visit, using the saucer that held the orchid's pot as an ashtray. Four days later, the plant's flowers had all fallen off.
Despite her loss, d'Origny claims that Richards was "very much a gentleman," and even obliged an autograph request by signing the very saucer he had been ashing his cigarette in. [Rolling Stone]
