Katy Perry says parents support her sort of annoying singing career

Pop tart Katy Perry found herself the target of more carefully constructed criticism, addressing an article in The Daily Mail that quoted the singer’s mother, evangelical preacher Mary Hudson, calling Perry’s single “I Kissed a Girl” “shameful and disgusting.” Perry publicly (hmmm…) responded to the article, saying that while her parents have their own opinions, they “love and support her.” She went on to say that her parents were unprepared for the onslaught of attention they’ve received in the wake of her recent success. Perry, whose coy experimentation has been omnipresent this summer, is up against Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Swift, and Tokio Hotel for Best New Artist at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.
