While it may seem as though a song like "Welcome to Heartbreak," the second track off of Kanye West's 808's & Heartbreak, is self-explanatory, Yeezy himself is here to assure everyone that it's not. "Chicken Soup For the Soul: The Story Behind the Song" hits bookshelves tomorrow and included inside are West's own words about "Heartbreak."
Apparently inspired by a conversation Kanye had with MTV producer Dave Sirulnick, West (hilariously) claims that his song marked "The first time a rap artist spoke condescendingly about property, possessions like a sports car." I guess he forgot about Eminem being so sick and tired of being admired back in 2000, among others.
So, for those who ever wanted to know the meaning behind a line like "Dad told a joke all the kids laugh, but I couldn't hear him all the way in first class," Kanye seems willing to be the guide through the metaphorical pitfalls. [HipHopDX]
