Kanye West Out Of The Top Ten
Kanye West's chart dominance for his superlative My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has already been thoroughly squashed, as the rapper is now out of the top ten on billboard, falling down to number 13, behind two albums by the Glee cast, albums by Susan Boyle, Josh Groban, Kid Rock and Andrea Bocelli (who are all essentially the same at this point), and the debuting No Mercy from T.I. , which hit number four this week. We probably shouldn't be all that surprised that Kanye's cracked, idiosyncratic opus isn't getting the sales love it should, but what stings the most is that the truly awful album from Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday, is hanging in there at number six. This was my fear about MBDTF, that its' left-field brilliance would end up alienating the hip-hop fanbase. Kanye West isn't Kanye West if he's not dominating both the radio and the internet.
He deserves to fall like the scumbag he is.

I'm tired of all you excuses-makers for Kanye. "Left Field Brilliance"? The album isn't brilliant by any stretch of the imagination. And I'm sure the argument against me will be "well I just don't get it". I, for one, think Kanye is a great artist and musician. And he's more true to hip-hop than most people out there. But the album wasn't brilliant at all. His verses were awful, it was way over-featured, and even those features weren't that good. All it has going for it are beats. But it's too short and not enough Kanye. If he wants to keep tapping in to his creative side and making albums like this, that's fine. The truth is he just isn't that creative. He's just different than contemporary hip hop. I like calling him "alt hip hop".
