This year’s MTV Europe Music Awards continue to make headlines, with hip-hop star Kanye West now claiming that they only gave him an award because he turned up to the ceremony. Rickrolling was officially recognized by the Awards (well, kinda), which took place in Liverpool last week.
"I won nothing last year and I'd brought out Stronger," West told British tabloid The Sun. "This year, just because I was there, I won Best Urban Act. This was Lil' Wayne's year.” West went on to question some of the decisions made during the awards ceremony, although he sadly declined to comment on Rick Astley’s Best Act Ever award.
“I mean, fucking Jared Leto?,” he exclaimed, in reference to 30 Seconds to Mars winning the Best Rock Act award and scoring a prize for the “A Beautiful Lie" video. “[Leto’s] my boy but he shouldn’t have won over some of those other artists.” West’s new album, 808s & Heartbreak, is scheduled for release on November 24.
