You know this whole indie rock thing is getting old now that K Records is turning twenty-five years old. Who knew that a label that has always championed a sense of musical childlike wonder was even able to drink? To celebrate that milestone, the little label that could is getting a lot of love from other small imprints. Yesterday, folks from Secretly Canadian Distribution sent the label the yummy looking cake you're feasting your eyes on at left. And Sufjan Stevens' Asthmatic Kitty Records is throwing K a cyber party. (Sounds kinky!) If you head over to Asthmatic Kitty's website, you can stream a collection of the label's artists and pals like Half-Handed Cloud and Danielson covering K artists' songs (just click on the "akradio" link). Off on the site's sidebar, you'll find a label profile written on K. In upcoming weeks, more K cover songs and writings are expected to be added to the site, so keep checking back in for more silver anniversary celebration.
K has been one of my favorite record labels for the past 10 years. Love 'em.

Yeah, where would a lot of today's indie rock be without Calvin Johnson? Dude's a true American hero.

Agreed... have you ever seen THE CIRCLE AROUND THE K ?

Agreed... have you ever seen THE SHIELD AROUND THE K ?

Is that like a documentary about the label?
John Zeiss
Yeah... came out years ago. I think they recently put it on DVD. I have an old dusty VHS copy. It's a history of the label... more or less a biopic on Calivn and Beat Happening. Lotsa cameos. Even Dean Wareham from Luna's in it oddly enough. Definitely a good watch if yr a label fan.
