Julian Casablancas Says the Strokes Are Still Together and Have Been "Rehearsing for Months"

Don't read too much in to the fact that since The Strokes most recent album, 2006's First Impressions of Earth, Julian Casablancas has a solo album, Phrazes for the Young, to be released this fall and Albert Hammond Jr. has released two solo records. Their more prolific solo careers don't mean the band is splitting. In fact, The Strokes are "rehearsing now," said Casablancas, and have been for "five or six months."

The album The Strokes are at work on could be out early next year, making for a four-year gap between albums. Much longer and they'd have to call it a reunion. Other bands have come back together after solo efforts to record strong albums--namely Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion after Panda Bear's Person Pitch--but Strokes' role models Guided by Voices saw a lineup change that led to a very different sound for the band. But which Strokes member will be Tobin Sprout?
