Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones Take Flight as Them Crooked Vultures

There's something inspiring about seeing a young group of nobodies hit it big by playing music that they like. Them Crooked Vultures are basically the opposite, a trio of established-cum-legendary musicians joining together, but I'm curious to see what they come up with, too. Stereogum reports that the group, rumored since 2005, will be debuting at midnight August 9 at the Metro in Chicago.

We can well imagine what a group whose members hail from Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, and Led Zeppelin will sound like. Very doubtful that they found each other in order to move in an electric jazz direction. But will there be anything surprising to come of this collaboration, or just the fanboy joy of seeing them together?
