Johnny Marr Unhappy About British Prime Minister’s Love Of The Smiths

British Prime Minister David Cameron has made no secret for his love of the Smiths in the past, much to the embarrassment of the left leaning tendencies of the band. Now, guitarist Johnny Marr has tweeted about the Conservative leader’s fascination with his former band, in what appears to be a desperate attempt to prevent him from speaking any further about them.

“David Cameron, stop saying that you like The Smiths, no you don’t,” he wrote. “I forbid you to like it.” This isn’t the first time that someone has cast aspersions on Cameron’s love of the Smiths—Blur drummer David Rowntree claimed the Tory leader was a “Smiths tourist” earlier this year.

Cameron, however, remains unrepentant. “I’m sure when Morrissey finds that he’s getting an endorsement from the leader of the Conservative Party, he will think ‘heaven knows I’m miserable now’,” he said, in what may be one of the worst uses of a Smiths-title-as-pun in history. “But I’m a big fan, I’m afraid. Sorry about that.”
