After splitting in 1987 and rejecting countless offers to reform ever since, The Smiths were the subject of frenzied rumors concerning a reunion following a report on Music-News.com earlier today. According to the British website, “a source” had revealed that the band were in talks with a “well-known promoter” about a forthcoming tour this fall.
Speaking to the NME in March, Johnny Marr had already firmly ruled out a reunion, and today he stepped in once again to restore order. Two sentences on the guitarist's Facebook page were enough to quash the speculation: “The rumour of The Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening.” [Pitchfork]
