John Lydon has reformed one of the greatest post-punk bands of the era, Public Image Ltd., and has been speaking about the band's upcoming shows. The Sex Pistols singer was talking to Clash Magazine about the reformation, and was characteristically blunt about his motivation behind it.
"I don’t see it as reforming the band" he said. He also claimed that his recent advertising campaign for butter helped finance the band. “Well, the money that came through from the ‘butta!’, has turned out to be just about the right amount to try and get myself back out on the road again. Because I’m not working with any sponsorship at all. I’ve no record company support."
Lydon wasn’t drawn on why Keith Levene or Jah Wobble—two pivotal figures in the band’s history who most fans would love to see on stage with him—weren’t included in the new PiL lineup, although he seems to be looking to the future rather than the past. "I’m always writing" he said. "I miss it like mad, PiL, absolutely like mad. To me, it’s just like I need to do this. It can do no hurt.”
