One of the more morbid/unsavory aspects surrounding the endless coverage of Michael Jackson's death is that Joe Jackson, his iron-fisted father, has been using his increased media presence due to Michael's death to promote some new record company he has where they're trying to put stuff on Blu-Ray. And it's not just isolated instances; Joe is doing it in every interview and appearance he has had. There's the CNN red carpet interview above where the reporter tries in vain to get some quotes about Michael, and then the FOX News Press Conference below. The one below is probably the better of the two, because Al Sharpton looks befuddled as to why he's around. Me too.
I guess this is probably not the worst thing that's ever been pointed out about Joe Jackson, considering he's been blamed for, among other things, abusing the Jackson 5 and indirectly leading Michael to his obsession with plastic surgery for making fun of his nose when he was a kid. But still, this is pretty low. I can appreciate not wanting to talk about Michael in a time of grieving, that makes perfect sense. But to use your new pulpit as a promotional tool for a label that apparently has some projects running (that's the funniest part: it's never quite clear what the label is or who's signed to it) is really sad. That was more outrageous than I thought it would be.
