For those of us who came of age in the nineties, Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" sounded a little off, mainly because there was already a song by that very title. Whatever Perry's merits as an artist, it's understandable that Jill Sobule would be a little put out that she suddenly has to share the title of her signature tune. Sobule, however, elected to take the high road and didn't mention the song or Perry in an interview. That is, until she finally broke her silence talking with The Rumpus. After reiterating that she didn't want to sound bitter, Sobule offered these comments on Perry and her song:
Okay, maybe, if I really think about it, there were a few jealous and pissed off moments. So here goes, for the first time in an interview: Fuck you Katy Perry, you fucking stupid, maybe “not good for the gays,” title thieving, haven’t heard much else, so not quite sure if you’re talented, fucking little slut.
While that's more than just sounding bitter, Sobule shouldn't feel bad. It's not like some other band has come along and recorded a song called "Take on Me" or "Barbie Girl." She has a right to throw a couple names out there. [The Daily Swarm]
She didn't hold back, did she?
