Jerry Garcia Biopic In The Works

Eventhough Phil Lesh’s autobiography would be easy pickings for a biopic, you always had to know that Jarry Garcia would be the first of the Grateful Dead to get a biopic. And he is apparently close to getting one, as Variety is reporting that Amir Bar-Lev, director of documentaries The Tillman Story and My Kid Could Paint That, has signed on to direct a biopic of the Dead frontman’s early years, based on Dark Star, an oral history of Garcia’s life writted by Robert Greenfield. There’s no word on who will play Garcia (I vote Jeff Bridges), but it’ll be the first non-documentary film project about the Grateful Dead whenever it’s released. [Variety]
