More than a year ago, there were rumors rolled around the net that there was a potential biopic of Jerry Garcia in the works. It was going to be directed by a documentary filmmakers and based on the band's oral history.
Well, there's been a biopic of Jerry Garcia greenlighted, but it's not that rumored version. It turns out it's going to be produced by Malcolm Leo, a music documentary filmmaker, and manager John Hartmann, who are centering the movie around a three hour conversation Garcia had with Leo in 1987. The filmmakers have one huge leg up though: They've secured the rights to the Grateful Dead's music and Garcia's life. There's no casting news at this point, and no promise that this will happen, but still: Jerry Garcia biopic coming, potentially. [DS]
