Jeff Mangum, Will Oldham, a Ton of Others on Chris Knox Benefit Comp

Chris Knox, one of many great indie artists coming out of New Zealand, sadly suffered a stroke last month and is now in the middle of what his friend Roy Martyn described as a "very long recovery process." But Knox isn't going through recovery all on his own. MGMT recently did a DJ set in Auckland and donated all proceeds to Knox. And now, just about every indie rock band under the sun is coming together to record a benefit album for Knox. Entitled Stroke (seriously), the disc will include the likes of Jeff Mangum, Will Oldham, the Mountain Goats, Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, Bill Callahan and a long list of other heavyweights recording their own versions of Knox's songs. No release date has been set, and no official tracklist has been announced, but this is shaping up to be not only a project for a great cause, but also a kick ass, star-studded comp. [Pitchfork]
