In the spirit of any news about Jeff Mangum being good news, even if it isn't the extremely great news that he's finally decided to fire up Neutral Milk Hotel again, we're happy to report that the reclusive musical genius recently got hitched. Mangum married writer and filmmaker Astra Taylor. Taylor directed the documentary Zizek!, which featured music by ex-NMH drummer/current A Hawk and A Hacksaw leader Jeremy Barnes. So congrats to the newlyweds. Maybe Mangum's marital bliss will spark him to share more of his music with the world? Just maybe? Pretty please? [Glorious Noise]
Do we want to hear another NMH album? Music was just a part of Magnum's journey, more a piece of himself than of the recorded world. If he's happier writing short stories or sitting on people's faces, there is no reason for him to be recording. What made Aeroplane, in my estimation, the greatest album ever written was the fact that it wasn't merely an effort to create admirable music--perhaps his mission was not even to express himself. The album feels like a "record" in the realest sense, an artifact of a much more profound and abstract movement within Mangum himself.
It's hard for me to say something like that given my own obsession with his work. But I have to admit that when that Mangum hoax was all over the internet, I couldn't bring myself to be as excited as I wanted myself to be.
Poor old Jeff. 10 years after In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and he can't fart without it being reported as
hoofer
hahha

I agree, Eli. I'm happy with his output. And that output carries an aura that maybe no other records have. Why spoil it? Why be disappointed?
Harvey
good luck
