Jay-Z's Occupy Wall Street Shirt Still Happening, Despite Outcry
Update: Thanks to The Rap Up, we know now the shirts are back on sale. They're backordered till December, though, so buy them in outrage now, and get madder in a month.
Last Friday, the Internet rose to righteous indignation at the fact that Jay-Z's Rocawear clothing company was planning to sell an Occupy Wall Street-inspired T-shirt. The problem? None of the proceeds from the shirts would go to the protests.
Jay-Z finally responded this weekend--the shirt is no longer available on Rocawear's website. However, the shirt is still going to happen, apparently, at least according to Russell Simmons' Global Grind website, who said this:
Specifically, there seemed some sort of made-up controversy around where the proceeds from the OWS shirts would go, and if Jay would be profiting off the shirts or if the proceeds would go to the movement. Jay never mentioned where the money would go, Rocawear just said they weren't sure yet.
So, controversy over? No wait! "Rocawear hasn't decided where the money would go" isn't an answer! It's a dodge! Fight the power! Down with capitalism, etc. [VV]
