Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" Becomes His First #1 Single
A while back, we had a thread going debating which song was Jay-Z's most well-known. Debate over! "Empire State of Mind" has become Jigga's first number one hit as a top-billed performer, which seems inconceivable, but is totally true. It's Jay's fourth number one hit overall, as he hit the charts with Mariah Carey's "Heartbreaker," Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" and Rihanna's "Umbrella." So, officially, "Empire State of Mind" is Jay's most popular song. [Billboard]

It's kind of insane that this is his first #1. But in a way, it's not. He's had huge hits by himself, sure, but they mostly only catered to the hip-hop audience.
Yeah, I think this is his first official smash.
He's had 11 number 1 albums but no number 1 single, which is great. People enjoy the entire body of work, instead of just 1 commercial song.
