Fela! Is a forthcoming Broadway musical that is based on the extraordinary life of the Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti. Brian Eno once memorably said: "There were three great beats in the '70s: Fela Kuti's Afrobeat, James Brown's funk and Klaus Dinger's NEU!-beat."
The show opens on Nov. 23, and it has just been announced that Jay-Z will work as a producer on Fela!, providing some much-needed financial backing in somewhat troubled times for Broadway. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are also working as producers on the show, and previews of the musical have already got under way.
