Jay-Z vs. Noel Gallagher: Round Two

Does hip-hop have a place at England’s Glastonbury Festival? Glastonbury is one of the world’s largest festivals, and the organizers pride themselves on the diversity of its lineup. But controversy broke out when it was announced that Jay-Z would be one of this year’s headline acts. Noel Gallagher was particularly vocal, stating: “I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong.” Noel doesn't have much love for hip-hop. He's previously declared that it's "a fake form of music" and suggested rappers should "give it a rest you bunch of idiots." Ouch.

Now Jay-Z has hit back at Noel, justifying his place on a main stage that will also play host to Leonard Cohen, the Verve, and the Gossip. “We don’t play guitars, Noel, but hip-hop has put in its work like any other form of music. This headline show is just a natural progression. Rap music is still evolving.” Perhaps an on-stage showdown between the pair could resolve the issue? Jay-Z could lay down a few rhymes, Noel could return fire with a few Beatles Oasis riffs. Let the audience decide who wins. More quotes on the issue from Jay-Z here.

Jay-Z must be busy because it took him long enough to respond. Classy response though.

Nice bit about Beatles riffs. Haha.

At least Jay-Z has put out some albums worth listening to over the past decade.

I'd love to see a riff/beat off(the music kind) ala Celebrity Deathmatch

noel, unlike other celebs, tells it how it is and is honest. he duznt say things just to be liked by the media. he felt jay-z was wrong for the festival, so he said he was wrong for the festival. end of story
p.s WILL, have a listen 2 definetely maybe, morning glory, dont beleive the truth. and then tell me whether or not oasis have 'put out some albums worth listening to'. and r u forgetting oasis' classic 'wonderwall'?? it mustve been a relli dumb song 2 hav becum an ANTHEM eh??

M.S i am guessing by your statement on that trash you listed as "worth listening to" that you indeed have ms the medical problem, get some taste in music and start listening to rap music.

rap is garbage. look at Jay-z's lyrics its all N***A this and smack that ho that. Anyone who listens to hip hop is an idiot. there's nothing socially redeeming about that mess

Its funny when certain people describe rap lyrics. They always tend to use stereotypical terms when they pretend to

when im driving in my car i listen to what i want to cause i can ... obviously people are all different especially through our own personas of ourselves; it's the fact that we have the opportunity to have choice of what to listen to and damnit if its my birthday were goin to listen to what I want to listen to, no poles taken...

First of all i feel that anyone who does not understand that culture that produced hip hop has no right to critize it, to dismiss hip hop as trash as a whole just shows your own ignorance, I’m not gonna sit here and be like all hip hop is art and full of profound word play but you could say the something about rock. And if you knew anything thing about the history of rap you'd see the parallels because when rock was in its beginning stages, they said the same thing that it was trash but look at it now, although hip hop is about 30 years old it is still evolving due to changes in the socio cultural climate that produces rap it is still evolving so lay off calling rap trash til you take these complex issues into consideration

i'm a fan of both parties.......in fact i'm going to an upcoming oasis concert...noel was just speaking his mind, unlike other artists he's very open with his opinions...however he did not have the right to bash up hiphop in general...but we all know rockstars tend to be a bit outrageous....but i have to hand it to jay z he came back with a classy response....i think they should stop brawling (which i know is impossible)..perhaps they should just go their separate ways (spoken like a fan of both parties)....

glastonbury ROCK FESTIVAL, hiphop isn't ROCK.
oasis are legends wether you hate them or not.
they have made influential albums, theyre album was second to the beatles lonely hearts club in top 10 albums of all time in the U.K. it's a fact that oasis is much more respectable and superior than jay-z, sorry guys, but its true. A FACT.

July 16, 2008 at 4:53 p.m.

First off its called "Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts" hip hop is an contemporary performing art form. Though those states may be true I don’t understand how you make the claim that oasis is much more respectable and superior than jay-z they are different, plus it’s hard to take your argument seriously because you calling subjective opinions facts that does not reflect very well on you ability to think in a critical capacity.

man what if it had been DMX noel's security would cost more than a divorce

What Noel Gallager leaves in his toilet in the morning has infinatly more musical talent then Jay Z. Seriously. smart business man, but devoid of any musical talent. he calls him self a rock star, what does he sing, sing, not talk. You really do have to hand to someone who can make that much money without a musical cell in his body.

Think1st, I totally agree with you.

Guv'ner, what the hell are you talking about??? Have you even listened to a Jay-Z album? Seriously...if you've listened to any of his recent music, you'd know that that's not what his lyrics are about.

Oh and to the a$$hole above me(maybe I'm going to hard on calling you out of your name, but the sh*t that you said was just f*cking disrespectful), just shut the hell up! I won't even dignify your ignorance with a real response.

November 14, 2008 at 6:59 p.m.

I'm with you Erica. I am a fan of both Genre's of music. But, to say that Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, or The Brilliant DEAD PREZ~ THERE ARE SOME REALLY AMAZING HIP HOP ARTISTS~ That's Just The Bottom Line.. Now, If The Streets Were Brought Up, Would You Say That They Are Trash As Well?? 42hours.blogspot.com ~ Speak to me.. Always interesting~!! Cheers.. myspace.com/hedreamsawake MERCi
