Jay-Z Tops The Source Magazine's Power 30 List

Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 is due for release on September 11 (probably) and he has recently been performing live with Eminem. The inspirational hip-hop star has lost none of his power—the Source magazine has placed him in the coveted number 1 slot on their Power 30 list, which chronicles the most influential power players in the genre.

Other familiar names are scattered throughout the list, including Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and P.Diddy. Barack Obama gets an honorable mention for his influence on hip-hop. Jay-Z’s positioning on the list may seem like a surprise considering he hasn’t released an album since the American Gangster soundtrack in 2007, but his business dealings have cemented the muner 1 spot.

These savvy negotiations include a $150 million partnership with Live Nation in 2008. Jay-Z's sale of the rights to his Rocawear clothing brand netted the rapper a cool $204 million in 2007, and he no doubt picked up a handsome sum for his controversial appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. It’s safe to say that Jay Z is very, very wealthy.
