Jay-Z May Follow Diddy's Lead and Invest in a Soccer Team

Wealthy hip-hop stars clearly need to perform odd acts of one-upmanship on occasion. Last week Diddy claimed he was interested in reviving the fortunes of English soccer team Crystal Palace by possibly buying the club. Now, Jay-Z is hot on his heels, and is claiming he may invest in the vastly more successful Arsenal.

"I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?” he said. “I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right great.” Jay-Z famously owns a stake in the New Jersey Nets, and was recently present at the controversial groundbreaking for their new stadium in Brooklyn.

The rapper has also revealed why Arsenal caught his eye. "It was about five years ago now,” he said, in a copy of a recent Arsenal magazine. “When Thierry Henry was at the club I saw him play and I just thought he was an amazing player. Ever since then I have been a big fan of the club, following you guys, and still today you play the beautiful football that Thierry did. I think he had a real long term-effect on the team.”

Why does this seem to make so much more sense than Diddy's plan?
