Jay-Z's mini-documentary, entitled NY-Z, was filmed surrounding his Absolut Vodka-sponsored performance on September 11, 2009. It's beautifully shot, draws interesting things out about its central figure, and features some terrific performance footage. However, what may be most impressive about it is the fact that they interview John Mayer extensively and he doesn't say something embarrassing.
Directed by Danny Clinch, the 15-minute short film details Jigga's life in New York, from the music of the city, to its inspirational qualities, to his childhood growing up there, and how an album as NY-centric as The Blueprint III can resonate universally. It's an intriguing look at one of hip-hop's biggest stars. [The Smoking Section]
I was wondering when the product placement for Absolut would creep into the frame...11:40 is when the shots come out.
