Jay-Z, the man behind the soundtrack for Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe's new hit movie "American Gangster" has thrown down the gauntlet against conventional digital music interfaces for the project. Variety.com is reporting the soundtrack will not be released in a track-by-track format to iTunes, instead being sold only as a full digital album on Rocafella.com, Amazon.com, and Rhapsody.com. Jay-Z, who has technically been retired for two albums now, is refusing to release the album as compartments saying, "As movies are not sold scene by scene, this collection will not be sold as individual singles." While this may be true, anyone who has seen the nearly three-hour "American Gangster" might choose a few (hundred) scenes to drop. Jay-Z's soundtrack is not nearly as long and hit digital and physical store fronts this morning. [Variety]
