Jason Mraz and Black Eyed Peas Set Chart Records

Here's one from the terrible-musicians-selling-more-music-than-would-seem-rational file: Black Eyed Peas and Jason Mraz both set major chart records this week.

Mraz, a wimpy, acoustic-pop rocker, has set the record for longest time spent on the Hot 100, as his latest sonic massacre "I'm Yours" has spent a whopping 70 weeks in the top 100. What's more, the song never dropped below No. 40.

Black Eyed Peas have set the record for most weeks spent at No.1, as their joint singles, "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling," have held the number one spot for 20 weeks. It surpasses Usher's 19-week run with "Yeah" and "Burn" in 2004. Will.i.am, who never misses a chance to annoy, had this to say:

"With this kind of success your ego wants to take all the credit but your heart reminds your soul that it was your heart that had you slaving and creating in the studio making the music; breaking through comfort zones and tradition. In the fight between heart and ego my heart always wins."

UGGGGGHHHHHH. Amirite? I'm sure you "slaved" away making "Boom Boom Pow." [Billboard]
