Jarvis Cocker Set to Release Steve Albini-produced Album

For all those Pulp fans who are still sad about the band's ongoing hiatus, there will be some solace in the form of frontman Jarvis Cocker's upcoming album, the follow-up to his 2006 solo debut, Jarvis. The still untitled new album is set to be released May 19 and was produced mostly by Steve Albini in Chicago. The pairing is interesting since Cocker's previous work could be considered lush and polished, and Albini has been, well, Albini (Nirvana, Shellac, Pixies). The sound of Cocker's signature accented croak mixed with a chaotic background should be entertaining at the least and the pairing easily makes it one of the more anticipated albums of the spring. This one should be interesting. I mean, I liked Pulp just fine, but something about that Jarvis album really caught me.

This is a great pairing. I don't know why it's taken so long to bring these two together.

Pulp's sound was anything but "lush and polished" before they signed to Island. Their mid-80s output, in particular, was incredible raw. Check out Master of the Universe to start.
