Darla cooking up Japancakes reissues
Last year saw the release of two new albums from instrumental collective Japancakes, the original work Giving Machines and the band's reworking of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. Now February 12 is the slated date for Darla Records to reissue the group's first three recordings. 2000's If I Could See Dallas was Japancakes' sprawling, eclectic, and engaging debut. It was followed that same year by Down the Elements, then released as an EP, now considered an LP. The four songs on it come from the same sessions that produced Dallas. And 2001's The Sleepy Strange found the band streamlining its cello and pedal-steel-laden sound into even more gorgeous compositions. All originally released on Kindercore, these albums from post-rock's heady heyday have been out of print for a while.
